I just read an article by Mark Dubovoy covering a recent issue with printing targets for custom profiles using Apple Snow Leopard (10.6), Epson drivers and Apple Computers on Luminous-landscape.com. I’ve delayed my official update to Snow Leopard because I usually like to wait a few months to upgrade after initial testing. I’ll be testing this approach with Epson and other drivers soon.

Full-Day Inkjet Printing Workshops 9/12 and 9/13

I posted information on the InkjetTips.com and ImagingBuffet.com workshop pages a few weeks ago about two upcoming full-day workshops that I’m conducting in New Brunswick, NJ at Alfa Art Gallery on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13. Some seats still remain for both workshops, which are limited to just 8 participants each. I currently have a show on exhibit at the gallery entitled East + West, featuring photographs of New York and Japan. Having the workshop at the gallery allows me to describe the prints up close, and properly lit under gallery spotlights.

East + West: Photographs of New York and Japan Exhibition Announcement

I’m happy to announce an upcoming show of my pigment inkjet prints in New Brunswick, NJ from 8/28-9/16/2009. New York City and Japan are places that have had a profound effect on me. In the case of NYC, it started at about age 5, and in the case of Japan, age 18. In this show, I include about 25 images from both places, from 20×24 framed prints to 40×70 inch prints on canvas.

I just checked with Nancy Ori and learned that there are a few spaces still available for the upcoming Full Day Inkjet Printing Class that I’ll be conducting on Friday, 1/9/2009 in Berkeley Heights, NJ. The workshop is entitled: Fine-Art Inkjet Printing Full Day Workshop: How to Prepare Files and Make Gallery-Quality Prints and it is limited to just five participants. I’ve conducted about ten of these at Nancy Ori Studios over the last six months, and the response I’ve received from attendees has been fantastic. I just posted this announcement on The Imaging Buffet about the two hour seminar that I’m giving this week at the PhotoPlus Expo at the Javits Center in New York City. I’ve been busy testing new papers, and revisiting many others that I’ve used over the years. I’m also testing and researching new printers so that I have all the info I need to share my thoughts and experiences.

Below is a description of my seminar:

How To Choose the Right Inkjet Printers and Papers (TC8)
Thursday, Oct 23, 2008: 3:45 PM – 5:45 PM

This lecture/demonstration by Andrew Darlow—photographer, consultant and author—covers the following: an overview of pro-quality printers from Canon, Epson and HP; a description of more than 20 recommended inkjet papers (including glossy, fiber gloss, and watercolor); and tips for optimizing print quality with specific papers and printers, such as how to effectively coat papers and canvas for better protection and longevity. Selected prints output from Canon, Epson and HP printers will be on display, and participants will receive more than 25 letter-sized blank sheets of high-end inkjet papers for testing. Handouts describing the papers and products discussed during the workshop will also be provided.

As I count them up, I will actually be giving to each participant more than 40 letter-sized blank sheets of high-end inkjet papers (2 sheets each more than 20 gloss, semi-gloss, fiber gloss and fiber-semi-gloss, matte and watercolor papers) from a number of different companies. These were chosen by me because I’ve tested them and think that they are worth trying (primarily if you have a pigment-based inkjet printer).
